Business Buying, Explained

YOUR QUESTIONS. CLEAR ANSWERS.

Start with the essentials, then let our team help with the details of your business.

Ask Our Finance Team
Do I need a fleet of vehicles to qualify?

No. Eligible businesses can explore BMW business-vehicle benefits starting with just one vehicle. BMW has removed the previous three-vehicle minimum. Our team will confirm eligibility for your business, vehicle and payment option.

Can I buy or lease in my business’s name?

Yes, we can help you explore a vehicle purchase or lease for your business. Fleet-program purchases must be titled and registered in the company’s name. Eligible LLC customers can also explore BMW Financial Services Fleet Lease options, subject to credit approval.

Does owning a business guarantee financing or an incentive?

No. Program eligibility and credit approval are separate. Your business, selected vehicle and transaction must meet the applicable program requirements, and financing or leasing requires lender approval. Qualifying for a vehicle program also does not automatically qualify you for a tax deduction.

Can I use any payment method and receive the same fleet benefit?

The available programs depend on how you pay. BMW fleet purchase benefits apply to eligible cash or outside-financed transactions. Eligible LLC customers may have a separate BMW Financial Services Fleet Lease option. Do not assume a BMW Financial Services retail loan carries the same fleet incentive; our team will compare the applicable choices.

Will I need a personal guarantor?

Plan on providing a personal guarantor when applying for business financing or leasing. A guarantor is an individual who agrees to be responsible if the business does not pay. Our Finance team will explain the lender’s requirements for your application and whether an exception is available.

What insurance should I arrange?

Before delivery, arrange insurance in your business’s legal name. Have your insurance agent confirm the vehicle’s business use and required coverage with our Finance team. The policy should match the approved ownership and registration structure and include any lender-required loss-payee or additional-insured information.

What if my business is new or has limited credit history?

Tell us early so our Finance team can review the available options. A lender may request personal credit information, an individual guarantor, additional financial documents or a down payment. Approval and terms depend on the application; a new business is not guaranteed financing.

Can I combine business benefits with other advertised offers?

Combination rules vary by program, vehicle and payment method. Our team will compare the available purchase and lease options and confirm which offers can be used together. Incentives may change, so ask for a current written breakdown for the vehicle you are considering.

What should I know about tax deductions?

Your business vehicle may qualify for federal deductions, including Section 179 or bonus depreciation, depending on the vehicle and your circumstances. Vehicle classification, qualified business use, acquisition date, placed-in-service date and other limits affect the result. Ask your tax advisor to review the exact vehicle before you buy. BMW ownership or business-name registration alone does not establish tax eligibility.

Should I buy or lease for my business?

Consider your expected mileage, how long you want to keep the vehicle, cash flow and ownership preferences. Buying and leasing have different financing and tax treatment. A lessee generally evaluates the business-use portion of lease payments under the applicable rules, rather than deducting the vehicle’s purchase price. Our team can explain the vehicle options; your tax advisor should evaluate the tax result.

2026 Federal Tax Overview

KNOW THE TAX BASICS. THEN TALK TO YOUR CPA.

A business vehicle may be eligible for tax deductions. The amount depends on the specific vehicle, how it’s used and your tax situation.

A deduction reduces taxable income. It is not a tax credit or a reimbursement of the purchase price. Buying in a business name does not, by itself, create a deduction.

Start with business use.

Section 179 and bonus depreciation generally require more than 50% qualified business use. Keep records; ordinary commuting is personal use. The vehicle must be placed in service, meaning ready and available for business use.

Verify the exact vehicle.

For relevant passenger SUVs, the heavy-SUV category generally uses a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) above 6,000 and no more than 14,000 pounds. GVWR is not curb weight. Lighter vehicles face different deduction limits.

Review the 2026 rules.

The Section 179 heavy-SUV limit is $32,000 for 2026. Qualifying remaining business-use cost may be eligible for 100% bonus depreciation for property acquired and placed in service after January 19, 2025. Income limits and other restrictions still matter.

General information as of October 6, 2026. BMW of Pittsburgh does not provide tax advice. No model is automatically eligible: confirm the model year, configuration, certified GVWR and use of your specific vehicle. Section 179 is subject to an active-business taxable-income limit and other limitations. A later reduction in business use to 50% or less can trigger recapture. State tax treatment may differ. Have your tax advisor review your federal and state situation before purchase or lease.
